Sigma Omicron Zeta Showed Up in Numbers to Support the Atlanta Aids Walk 2012
Raising $420, the ladies of Sigma Omicron Zeta chapter showed up and showed out supporting the 2012 Atlanta AIDS Walk. The volunteer event was organized by an excited new initiate, Maribel Guerrero, who recently became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. through the SOZ chapter in Spring 2012.
October 12th: Chi Pi Zeta Splits Forces to Support Two Great Events on Same Night
Chi Pi Zeta doubled their fund raising goal in support of the Leukemia
& Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk through downtown Savannah. Chi Pi Zeta Chapter and Iota Tau Chapter
joined together in their efforts to shine the bright light of Zeta for this
event. The walk raised awareness and
support for lifesaving research and patient services to continue the fight
against leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of
patients and their families. Chi Pi Zeta
was be recognized at the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s awards banquet on
December 5, 2012.
Chi
Pi Zeta Chapter fed over 20 foster children and 14 foster parents by partnering
with the Liberty County Department of Children and Family Services in
sponsoring a “Foster Parents Night Out.”
Sorors spent the evening playing with the children, while both the
foster parents and children enjoyed pizza, drinks and snacks provided by the
chapter. Additionally partnering with
the chapter in the event was the Hinesville Fire Department who provided a
workshop to the group on fire safety.
Voter Registration Drive 2012: A Joint Blue & White Call to Service
On Saturday, October 6, 2012, members of the Rho XI Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated and
members of the Kappa Alpha Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity,
Incorporated joined forces to host a voter registration drive at Stonecrest
Mall located in Lithonia, GA.
Prior to the drive, several of the members of both organizations were
trained to answer questions as they related to registering to vote in the state
of Georgia. During the event, both organizations set up tables filled with
voting literature in addition to the voter applications. The general public was
invited to register to vote and/or check their voter registration status
utilizing several computer kiosks that were set to accommodate the needs of
voters. Over 65 individuals were
registered to vote during the event. Countless others took advantage of the
kiosks in order to check their voter’s status. Additionally, several
individuals that did not have the proper information to register were provided
the necessary information to register before the deadline. Overall, the event
was a success and the feedback from the general public was positive.

Iota Eta Zeta: Busy Doves This Year
Iota Eta Zeta Chapter has hit the ground running and has been busy
doing the work of Zeta. November 3rd marked IHZ's 4th annual casino night, The
Royal Zee Games. The event is held every year at the conference center at
Georgia Piedmont Technical College in Clarkston. The night includes Vegas style
casino games, a DJ, buffet and a live prize auction to close out the evening.
The event has become a big hit and this year was attended by over 150 guests.
The Royal Zee Games is the primary fundraiser for IHZ's scholarship fund and
allowed the chapter to award more than $3,500 in scholarships last year.
Leading up to casino night, Sorors participated in two tailgating events to
support the Atlanta Falcons and kick start the fundraising campaign.
The Sorors of IHZ kept their dove wings flying by participating in the
grand opening event for the Hillandale Breast Center on October 28th. After 3
years of serving the women of DeKalb, Rockdale and Newton counties, the center
received funding for an expansion and the ladies of IHZ were there to help them
celebrate.
The IHZ youth auxillaries have also stayed on a busy trail. Their theme
for this year is “Her Story: Building a Legacy.” This year's events are
designed to ignite and engage the girls to impact their local and global
community. The girls kicked off this year's theme with "Planting a Legacy:
Tree Planting Project" at Lithonia Park in partnership with the Dekalb
County Office of Natural Resources, Park Pride and Trees of Atlanta. Thirteen
girls (Pearlettes, Amicettes and Archonettes), 7 Sorors, and 2 mommies planted
baby water hickory and bald cypress trees, shoveled mulch, and did litter
control.

Kappa Iota Zeta Hosts Z-HOPE for Men Event
On Saturday, November 3, 2012 the ladies of Kappa Iota Zeta
held a wonderful Z-Hope Men Event at a local men’s shelter in
Atlanta, GA. We invited our brothers of Phi Beta Sigma Sigma Chapter as we
cooked, prepared food, played games and set up a wonderful BBQ with the guests
at the shelter.
Participating in this Z-Hope Men event changed our perception
of homelessness dramatically. Homelessness is not always the images that we see
on the news or on the streets. Many of the men that we served resemble our fathers,
brothers and husbands. As we talked to the guests at the shelter, we realized
that they have so much to offer the world and that they simply were faced with
a bump in the road and eagerly want to make a change. This shelter provides a
system that pushes men out of the darkness of homelessness and into the light
of success. We went to the shelter wanting to help them but instead they opened
our eyes to a new world as we find ways to help them in the future.

Randolph Clay High School Varsity Cheerleaders partner with Theta Sigma Zeta Chapter for Breast Cancer Awareness
Zetas and fans are
partnering to win the fight against breast cancer. On Friday, October 5, 2012
the school joined us to show support for breast cancer awareness month.
Ronald Gadson, principal
of Randolph Clay High School, fully supported the partnership between the
cheerleaders and Theta Sigma Zeta Chapter. “As principal, I’m glad that for one
night we can use such a large event to unify the community by focusing on a
disease that affects us all. So many of our competitions divide us, but finding
a cure for cancer will take all of us working together.”
On the field during
half-time, we recognized and honored all those survivors who have, and are,
winning the battle against breast cancer. We also reflected a moment of silence
and released balloons for the ones who lost a loved one to breast cancer.
The event was held
to bring awareness and raise funds for the fight against breast cancer. The
Randolph Clay Red Devils fought a good fight against Mitchell County as they
tackled for a cure. There were no losers
on the field as the proceeds raised at the event went to assist breast cancer
research.
