KIZ Youth Auxiliaries on the Move

Kappa Iota Zeta’s Youth Auxiliaries have been busy with a lot of activities this sorority year. These girls are living in alignment with Zeta’s principles of scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood. Just to highlight some of the activities that the young ladies are doing within Kappa Iota Zeta.
Pearlettes

In December 2013, the Pearlettes and Kappa Iota Zeta (KIZ) members created goodie bags and stuffed items, baked cookies, and created hand written Christmas cards to distribute to the elderly at the Cosby Senior Center in Atlanta, Georgia.  In January 2014, the Pearlettes and KIZ members partnered with the Champion Kids Projects to distribute care packages to the homeless in downtown Atlanta. Lastly, Pearlette Breana Case was recognized for receiving the highest GPA for the Southeastern Region.
Amicettes

The Amicettes collected body care personal items and donated 20 gift bags for the seniors at the Cosby Spear Center. The girls participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk Volunteer Services, and distributed 700 water bottles to those that are participating in the walk. The Amicettes participated in a dining etiquette session with KIZ and learned how to conduct themselves at a dining establishment. The girls have participated in a letter writing session and learned how to write letters properly. The girls are currently in a pen pal program with the Amicettes of Epsilon Rho Zeta from Baltimore, MD.

Archonettes
The Archonettes attended the Cosby Spear Senior Center with Kappa Iota Zeta and assisted with singing holiday songs, catered lunch, and provided holiday tokens to the seniors. Later, the girls attended a seminar at Paschal restaurant to talk to women in various careers in education, health care management, human resources, human services, and nursing. The girls donated $20.00 for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in order to have the chapter meet their financial goal.
These young ladies are paving the way for Zeta. We look forward towards their success and leadership in the auxiliary. Continuing to train a child in the way she should go.

Tau Omicron Zeta is celebrating a decade of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood on April 12, 2014.  Since receiving its charter in 2004 TOZ has consistently met the initiatives and goals set by our sorority’s leadership and is diligently working towards its chapter’s goals.  The chapter Basileus, Soror Terri Key describes TOZ as a “young but seasoned chapter.”  This is evident in the goals that were laid out at the very beginning.
One of the goals achieved is the organizing of an Amicae Auxiliary in 2013.  The chapter has the distinction of providing Etiquette Workshops for over 500 cadets a year at the National Guard Youth Challenge Academy Fort Gordon Campus.  TOZ also has the honor of having a Georgia Hall of Fame Honoree in its membership, Dr. Deborah W. Austin.
TOZ has its first Life Member, Soror Deanna Andrews and Soror Shirley Howard is currently serving as the Tamias-Grammateus for Georgia.  This very talented group of educators, nurses, dieticians, managers, trainers and counselors use their skills in service to the community through varies Z-HOPE projects.
These ladies all firmly believe that when “Zeta calls, we answer one and all.”

Phi Omicron Zeta Solidifies Partnerships

In our effort to facilitate community service, Phi Omicron Zeta Chapter has established partnerships with Bethlehem Baptist Church, Newton High School, Mountain View Nursing Center and the Rockdale Medical Center.

Over the summer of 2013, Phi Omicron Zeta volunteered on Divine Nine Day of the Summer Feeding and Enrichment Program, one of the Bethlehem Baptist Church's ministries.  This ministry provides food and classes designed to help nurture Covington’s children during the summer months when food and adult supervision are a scarcity.  Members from seven of the Divine Nine organizations led group meetings, facilitated classroom instruction and prepared and served meals for the program participants.  Soror Kathryn Williams and Soror Alison Jackson facilitated lessons and served lunch for first graders while Soror Evon Mazyck , Soror Eula Hardeman and one of our potential Aspirants worked with the fourth graders.    The pastor of the church, Reverend H.K. Benton, said, “Our program is an expression of compassion to these children who would be unoccupied and unfed. We offer them ways to become better citizens, better community members.”  This summer the program attendance averaged about 150 children a day.  Our chapter’s next event at Bethlehem Church will be Prematurity Awareness.

Eta Theta Zeta

The members of The Eta Theta Zeta Foundation and The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated planned a two-day conference, which was held Friday, April 26 – Saturday, April 27, 2013.
