Remarkable Rho Xi Zeta Feeds the Hungry

The women of Rho Xi Zeta recently spent a few hours on a Saturday morning to assist with serving meals to the hungry, at St. Francis Table. An outreach of the Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, St. Francis Table offers soup, sandwich as well as hot and cold beverages to those who are hungry.  The women of Rho Xi Zeta Chapter assisted with service and also offered a donation of socks to the donation center of the Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

The St. Francis Table began April 1982 in response the need for Saturday food program for the hungry. Many churches in Atlanta offered food programs during the week, but none offered food services on Saturday.  St. Francis Table now serves over 500 people every Saturday. Some of organization prepare and donate sandwiches, volunteers also prepare sandwiches on site to ensure each person receives a meal.  Organizations including parishes, religious denominations, colleges, high schools and companies participate food preparation. St. Francis Table is one of many Parish Outreach programs of the Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception to include, daily Morning Sandwich Ministry which offers breakfast to those in need; food pantry, night shelter, and Thanksgiving food baskets. For more information on how to donate or volunteer see contact the Shrine Office at (404) 521-1866 or visit the Parish Outreach section of their website at http://www.catholicshrineatlanta.org.
