Scholarship: The Legacy Continues

Iota Eta Zeta of Decatur, GA held its 8th annual Legacy Tea, in which, they continued Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.’s legacy of scholarship.  It was a great honor and sense of accomplishment to award monetary scholarships totaling $3,000 to four graduating high school seniors from the South DeKalb School District.

The essay topic: Social Media.  It’s estimated, more than 63% people have at least one active social media account. Just as television turned a nation of people who listened to media content into watchers of media contact. The emergence of social has created a nation of media content creators.  The scholarship committee found the essays were profound. Instead of awarding only two recipients, they decided to award everyone.

This year, the ladies of IHZ set the young ladies on a promising path of possibilities. According to the U.S. Department of Education, in the 2012-13 school year, the majority of post-secondary degrees conferred went to women. Far outnumbering men at all levels of degree, except doctoral, where women represented slightly more than half of recipients. Education is one of the most powerful tools a person can use to impact a community.

Congratulations to the graduating high school seniors and the ladies of Iota Eta Zeta.
