Zeta Youth Auxiliary Shines at the 2016 Joint Georgia State Conference

Alpha Theta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. attended the Joint State of Georgia Leadership Conference on February 26-27, 2016, in Augusta, Georgia, along with the brothers of Phi Beta Sigma, Inc., Zeta Amicae Auxiliary and the Youth Auxiliary. The Marriott at the Convention Center was the site for the conference meetings, educational workshops, and events throughout the weekend.

This year the Youth Auxiliary, sponsored by Alpha Theta Zeta Chapter, won Youth Auxiliary of the Year. The Youth Auxiliary took home 1st place in Scrapbooking. Amicette Latoi Buckner placed 2^nd in the Spelling Bee contest and Archonette Yeonnie Perry was awarded a certificate for having the highest Grade Point Average in school. The Youth had an opportunity to tour the campus of Paine College.

Our Youth Auxiliary was also recognized at our Southeastern Regional Conference in November at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Orlando, FL. Pearlette Kaitlin Dixon and Amicette Shy’Nya Hymon won 1^st place in the Spelling Bee contest and Archonette Yeonnie Perry placed 2^nd in the Spelling Bee contest. Not only did our youth place in the top two in the Spelling Bee contest, but Amicette Shy’Nya Hymon was elected Secretary and Archonette Yoennie Perry was appointed to the Youth Executive Board.

Rho Xi Zeta Recognized at March of Dimes Kickoff

Cobb County March of Dimes held its 2016 March of Dimes kickoff luncheon on 26 January 2016.  The purpose of the event was to both recognize the top teams and individuals for 2015, as well as to energize team leaders for the 2016 campaign. The Remarkable Rho Xi Zeta Chapter was recognized as one of the top ten donors for 2015. Soror Sharon Evans was included in the Circle of Champions for personally raising over $1,000. The Remarkable Women are of Rho Xi Zeta Chapter are enthusiastic and working diligently to remain a “Top Ten” team in Cobb County.

A Remarkable Soror Takes Her Place in the Village

The saying that, “It takes a village to raise a child,” means we all share the responsibility for the adults of tomorrow.  Soror Iana J. Daniels of the Remarkable Rho Xi Zeta chapter, did her part by participating in the Brentwood School’s “It’s Our Turn: Young Women’s Conference,” on January 30, 2016 in Los Angeles, CA. She participated in a panel discussion titled “Women Who’ve Paved the Way.” On the panel with Soror Daniels included a Neurosurgeon, the Program Manager for Stem Education in Media for Google and the LA Clippers’ President of Operations. The student moderated panel discussed issues of gender and race in the workplace. Soror Daniels and her fellow panelists used their experiences to offer words of wisdom to the young women in attendance.

The Brentwood School hosts the “It’s Our Turn: Young Women’s Conference,” every two years and is planned by young women. Their stated mission is to “...seek wisdom and guidance from others, empower ourselves, and inspire those around us.” The 2016 conference was attended by almost 1,000 young women from schools and organizations from the Los Angeles area grades 7-12, and their parents. In addition to the panel discussions, breakout sessions address topics such as body image, confidence and using social media as a tool.

A Remarkable Founder’s Day Celebration

The Remarkable Rho Xi Zeta chapter honored the legacy of the Five Pearls of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated by engaging in activities linked to the principles of Zeta. To kick off the weekend of events, the chapter participated in the Cobb County NPHC's Martin Luther King Step Show. The show held on the evening of Friday, January 15 2016 was an exhibition show to benefit of the community and to raise money for the Cobb County NPHC’s SCHOLARSHIP fund. Additionally, each participating organization received $1,000 toward their scholarship fund. Rho Xi Zeta and Rho Epsilon Zeta shared gift. 

At noon on Founder's Day, the chapter hosted the Fourth Annual signature event "Taste of Blue," honoring the principle of COMMUNITY SERVICE.  The event is free to attendees with a minimal charge for vendors. Attendees to this noteworthy event can expect vendors offering services that nurture the mind, body and soul. Attendees may find for example, personal trainers, massage therapists, certified therapists, and self-defense to name a few vendors. A Disc Jockey provided the tunes to keep the atmosphere celebratory. Sorors in attendance had the opportunity to stamp their passports as part of their centennial journey. At the conclusion of this fabulous event, the chapter met at Pappadeaux’s restaurant to celebrate SISTERLY LOVE. 

The remarkable women closed out the weekend by preparing food for Hosea’s House. On the evening of January 17, chapter members participated in a Joint Founder's community service projects. In the kitchen of the DeKalb County Jail, members of the blue and white family dedicated a few hours preparing food for service to those in need on Monday. #remarkablezetas 

Phi Omicron Zeta - 2016 Founders’ Day

Phi Omicron Zeta chapter used the 2016 Founders’ Day not only to honor the Five Founders or Pearls but also to get the next generation involved - Amicettes and Archonettes, with the Get Engaged initiative.   The celebration began by honoring the history of the sorority and migrated to a skit by the Youth, which focused on consequences of young girls using Social Media improperly.  The Youth performed two skits; one demonstrating improper use, and the other demonstrating proper use, of Social Media.  Then the sheriff of Newton County, Sheriff Ezell Brown and the Assistant Principal of Cousins Middle School, Soror Alison Jackson led an interactive forum and shared the educational and legal ramifications of the improper usage of Social Media.  They also emphasized that images or videos posted to Social Media are permanent and would follow them and affect their lives throughout their professional future. The program ended with the #IHaveADream Campaign. Some Sorors shared a younger picture of themselves and each Soror shared words of wisdom with our Youth on what we wished we had known when we were that age. Refreshments were served as everyone interacted with our dynamic speakers.  This event was well attended by Sorors, Amicettes, Archonettes, Amicae, parents and friends.

Xi Xi Zeta Celebrates Founders Day with Sigma Mu Zeta and Sigma Omicron Zeta Chapters

This year, Xi Xi Zeta invited several chapters to join in with them for a Founders Day Celebration at First Saint Paul A.M.E. located at 2687 Klondike Road in the city of Lithonia, Georgia.   On Sunday morning, January 17, 2016 at 10:00 a.m., chapter members from Sigma Mu Zeta, and Sigma Omicron Zeta joined the Zetas from Xi Xi Zeta in a very moving church service that brought together nearly 40 Zetas from across the Atlanta Metro Community.

During the church services, Soror (Rev.) Monica Taylor provided a history of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. organization and she was followed by Soror Deborah McClanahan who welcomed the Zetas in attendance to run, jump, clap, and praise the Lord in their own way. Later in the service, the Pastor of First Saint Paul A.M.E. church welcomed the Zetas and stated, “In my 15 years of being a Pastor at this church, the Zetas were the only sorority who has worshiped with them faithfully over the years and for that he was truly grateful and thanked them for their continuous support of service”.

During altar call, Rev. Crawford invited All Zetas in attendance to the altar and prayed a special prayer with and for them.  The service ended with Dr. Rolundus Rice (Talladega University), delivering a morning message about the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the choir rendering songs of Zion.

The event was followed by the Joint Chapters traveling to THRIVE Christian Academy to attend their Rededication Ceremony with 34 members in attendance.  A special thank you to this year planning committee, Soror Karen Hughes (ZHOPE Coordinator, Sigma Mu Zeta), Soror Twanitta Pouncey (Basileus, Sigma Omicron Zeta), and Soror Deborah McClanahan (Basileus, Xi Xi Zeta).

Xi Xi Zeta Answers to March of Dimes Call

When Zeta calls, we answer one and all. Xi Xi Zeta answered the call by volunteering with and for one of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. partners, March of Dimes.

The March of Dimes is the name of an annual charity event sponsored by the organization of the same name. The fundraiser, now called the March for Babies, is an annual walk to raise money to help fight birth defects and infant mortality. The organization is a non-profit health charity organization geared toward improving the health of babies.

Today, the March of Dimes is one of the largest and most successful not-for-profit organizations in the United States. It relies on contributions to further its goals, including those raised through events such as the March for Babies. In fundraisers like these, participants walk fixed amounts for pledges of money and contributions from others to the foundation.

March of Dimes reached out to local Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. chapters to help put packages together to get ready for 2016 campaign and kickoff.  On January 15, 2016,   Xi Xi Zeta chapter members answered the call by volunteering at the March of Dimes office located at 1776 Peachtree Street Atlanta, GA. We gave six (6) volunteer hours to help put materials together for the campaign.
